From Florida

January 7, 2004

As you may have heard, I moved to southwest Florida, near Sarasota, in August 2002. I took an early retirement from teaching in Michigan...but I am back to fulltime teaching here in Manatee County. I am teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages and have middle school kids from eleven countries. Another snippet of news is that I will have my first grandbaby, a boy, in April!

I am attaching, a piece of news for you to put onto your Traveling Friends Network. I am taking a week off to travel to Hawaii for my first time, with a friend made at the Lake Geneva camp! You are welcome to add this note as well.

Postscript: I can still vividly remember when my two school-teacher Hageman aunts went on their adventure to Hawaii, in the early '60's. They were mostly on the island of Kauai and returned with lavish and superstitious tales. Even though I "should" be teaching next week instead of traveling to far-off Hawaii, I justify my trip because I have never been there, I have an economical chance to go with a friend, and I wasn't planning to teach fulltime this year anyway! So, Bon Voyage!

Hugs
Betsy
