Dear Friends,
We spent 10 days in New York City in June to attend a special event for Kuei-mei's best friend from college and to enjoy the theaters, sights and great ethnic food.
On Broadway, "Sweeney Todd" was a very impressive production, although the presence of the instruments on stage instead of in the pit made it a little too easy for them to overpower the singers. Also saw two excellent dramas, "Doubt" and "Faith Healer," the latter with Ralph Fiennes; "Spamalot" and "Rent," both as good as we expected, and "Pig Farm," a good time but not as satisfying or as out-loud funny as its authors' earlier "Urinetown," which Neil strongly recommend if you haven't had a chance to see a production of it.
Neil's biggest disappointment was going Greenwich Village to see "Line". It is the longest-running play in off-off-Broadway history, now in its 32nd year. The box office notified us that the performance had been cancelled due to illness of a cast member. The substituted one-man show was amusing (a visit with the old comics of vaudeville, radio and early TV).
If you have made it to Saug-for-All this year, please share some of your photos and tales. Hope you're all well and enjoying the summer!
Hugs from Kuei-mei & Neil
