Hello to all, |
|
Fall is here:
Fall is slowly creeping upon us here with cooler nights and dry sunny days. The garden is slowly playing it’s last tunes with lots of cool weather crops supplying us with veggies. The items that are coming on are leafy greens, a new crop of peas and the remnants of the tomatoes, peppers, a few green beans and very nice potatoes. It’s been another very goofy year for gardening with things that used to grow and produce not even sprouting, and things that never grew well, doing outstanding. Who can guess what to plant anymore. One thing for sure is that our rain has been very sparse this year. Our lawn is starving for water. We have so much area that watering grass is not even an option. We just pray for rain and leave it at that. |

Kristin signs up for a race:
Each of the past three years New Albany has been the site for what has become a nationally recognized walking race. People are now traveling from all over to compete in this event. We heard conflicting numbers as to how many people actually entered but we know for sure that in excess of 2500 people were lined up at the start. Not that everyone was hoping tgo be one of the top contenders. Many walk just for the fun of it. This year our daughter Kristin, signed up to walk, and we are proud to report that she finished #185 out of the huge number that were there. We think that’s something to applaud, especially for the first time competing. We might mention that Kristin enrolled in a health club nearby this year and has been working hard to get into shape. She has won several awards from the club for her efforts. Often she gets to the club for her workout when the doors open at 5:30....YEP, that's AM folks. WOW...is that dedication or what?

Title: Mr. Jerry photographs the New Albany 10K walking race:
Every year of it's existance our Mr. Jerry has been asked to shoot photos at the New Albany 10K walking race. This is one of the volunteer activities that he is involved in here locally. The proceeds from this race support many charitable activities in New Albany and Mr. Jerry says he is happy to donate his time to help the cause. (plus the exposure hasn't hurt his slide show business) There are "official" photographers there who take photos of the participants in hopes of getting orders for their photos. It's likely that they pay to participate, however. This year they had a booth in the display areas where they were selling their services. The photos that we shoot are more personal and are intended to capture the "flavor" of the race and people who participated. Many are human interest type shots. For instance, we can always count on at least one participant pushing a baby carriage with a dog inside. This year we spotted a lady using a walker completing in the race. There was one participant for whom they called the medical people. We were not there to see just what happened but heard it was a nose bleed. We aren't exactly sure what our 300+ photos will be used for....likely it's for promotion of next year's race. There are a lot of sponsors that need to be sold on the value of participating.

Trip to Cedar Point:
This month marks the third year in a row that we made a trip to Cedar Point to enjoy some of the Halloweeweekend events. Of course Jacob and family were along, I mean, what would a trip to an amusement park be without children? This year the place was packed with people, but then again this was the best weather we have experienced of the three years. Likely the park owners were smiling, big time at the crowd on this day. Mr. Jacob was very excited about the trip. However, he needed a little entertaining on the ride up. Fortunately Mrs. Gerrie prepared well with games and snacks that kept us all occupied, except me, of course I was driving. Long trips can be boring for young and old, you know. After we were in the parking lot and walked a "mile" to the gate, we had to stand in line to get our tickets. The bad news is that Jacob has grown about 1/2 inch taller this year and had to pay as an adult. (Yes, the establish the price by height) That was a blow since it’s about $30 more for his ticket than the usual kids rate. Pa Paw and Ma Maw get in as kids (we continue to shrink). Likely they know that we aren't going to be riding those giant roller coasters..nope, not us.
Sunday came quickly and we had a nice drive back to Columbus and our usual surrounds. Likely one could call this a mini vacation. The photos are of the midway, and Jacob and Kristin riding a roller coaster. That coaster waiting line was only....ummmm...only about 45 minutes long. |

Grandparents Day Celebrated:
The other big event this month was our celebration of Grandparents Day. This is our annual event where we invite the kids, parents and grandparents here for a day of play and fun. Of course, getting the food and grounds ready is the hard part. When the kids arrive we have more fun than a barrel of monkeys. This year we had five children here. In the past we have had more but getting all the families on the same schedule is quite a deal. So we had to settle on a day when we could get the most. We are hoping to get photos of some of the other kids who usually participate to include in the photo video we create each year. If you have high speed Internet, watch our video site for the show to come.
