NOTE: We've decided not to spend too much time writing reports for the days we've missed since being here. Perhaps it best to focus on what's happening now since most of you already know much of what happened anyway. Afterall we are in contact with many of you anyway and what we write will be redundant. Those who are not on our call list can check from time to time for past reports to appear. They will as time goes by and we'll not announce them.
Today was Mr. Jerry's special day and special it was. First of all we're tucked in to a very nice condo on Sanibel Island (what's not to like about that?) and secondly we both felt pretty good today. That's in contrast to what we've been experiencing during many of the past days... Mr. Jerry has battled a cold since arriving back from our cruise last week. For those who don't know, we cruised in Central America from January 25th to February 5th.
Mrs. Gerrie made an appointment to get her hair done and Mr. Jerry wanted to have the brakes on the car look at. All that adds up to a trip to the mainland and some running around. We left here around 10:30 thinking that we could find things to occupy us until Mrs. Gerrie's appt. On the way there our cell phone rang. As is our usual practice Mr. Jerry pulls it from his holster and hands it to Mrs. Gerrie who does all the talking while we are driving. However, it was our fFriend Dave from Columbus telling us that he and Lee (spouse) have decided not only to drive down here soon, but have arranged to take a cruise similar to the one we just took. When I finished talking to him I placed the phone in my shirt pocket. We stopped at McDonald's for some lunch and while eating our sandwiches in the car I noticed the fellow in the next car walk to the front of his car and place something on the curb. It looked like a cell phone holster from where I was sitting, but what struck me was that he was littering in the parking lot. I though why doesn't he put that in the trash...when he drove away I though of going over and seeing what he put there, but then thinking that I would be critized by Mrs. Gerrie for trash picking, I didn't do it. Later that day I discovered that I was missing my cell phone case that normally would be on my belt. Then it occured to me that....wow....that must have been my phone case that guy placed on the curb....about two hours later I rushed back only to find that someone now has a new phone case and I have none.....what a bummer. Not to worry...I know exactly where to buy a new one just like that and later we stopped by Odd Lots and I now have two more just like the one I donated to some lucky person who ate at McDonad's. End of that story.
On the way out this morning I snapped a few photos from the new bridge leading off the Island. It used to be almost at water level with a draw bridge where you see the high span. There are still two islands you drive across....likely they are man made to keep from building so much bridge structure. There used to be a ferry that crossed from mainland to the Island, but those days are long gone. We're thinking that the ferry had to be somewhat near where the bridge is now.
We didn't walk the beach today, firstly because it's still cool here. I think it didn't get above 61 degrees here, and secondly we were not here much of the day. Tomorrow we'll surely get back out there. It's going to be warmer, likely in the high 60s which is how it's been since we arrived.
We hope all of you who are battling snow are dealing well. We certainly are happy to not be there with you. we hear that our little burg, New Albany got close to 20 inches over the two snow events there. However, just across town another friend reported only about five inches in his yard. That's strange that it's that different so close. But it shows you how devious global warming can be.
