February 22nd Monday - Mom rejoined us today....... Our cousins, Stan and Janet delivered her to our place on Sanibel somewhere around mid day. To celebrate her arrival we decided to go out for dinner and we thought that a return to the Island Cow restaurant was in order. Of course the place was crowded and it was still cool enough that eating outside was not something we wanted to do. We asked to be seated inside and took our number along with one of those little buzzer things that they use to tell you when they are ready. We choose to sit in the car while we waited for our table. When our time came we went inside to find that they had seated us at a table for five. Knowing how crowded it was I told the person at the desk that we would have no objection to having them seat two people at our table. They did just that and it turned out to be a couple from New Hampshire. Well we struck up an immediate friendship with them and the conversattion was lively from that point. We talked at length about accomodations on the Island and they were very interested in where we were staying and we invited them to come by the next day. We took very few photos today since the weather began very foggy and the wind was quite strong. The surf was as high as we've seen it here. I'll include some photos of the surf.
February 23rd Tuesday - A much more quiet day as the weather goes. Apparently the cold front found it's way on through and now the wind has died down and even if it's not warm, it's calm.
The people we met at the Island cow came over today and we showed them around our end of the island. They seemed very interested in every aspect of our world here. I suspect they will try staying at Loggerhead the next time they come. They are paying almost twice what we're paying and for much less.
February 24th Wednesday - Today Barbara Maxey and husband Tyrone came over from Estero. Hey have a condo there and you might recall that they are the ones who so kindly offered us the use of their condo in Columbus when we were remodeling our place last year. Actually they saved us from being homeless since we really had no place to stay. They had a second couple with them who are also from our home town. They were interested in seeing Sanibel and Captiva. So we played tour guide and drove them the full length of the place. We lunched at Mucky Duck arriving and gettting a parking place just as a storm arrived off the beach. We were lucky enough to get seated before the storm hit us. It was intense and the rain came down as hard as I've even see it. Luckily the rain ended just as we were finishing up our lunch and the remainder of the tour was conducted in sun light. They seemed pleased with the tour we provided. No photos today.
February 25th Thursday - More visitors today in the persons of a fellow that Mrs. Gerrie works with at the funeral home. Judd and wife Sue drove down from the Sarasota area. They were interested in seeing what Sanibel has to offer, so we repeated the tour for them, this time lunching at the Island Cow. These folks always stay on Siesta Key just just off Sarasota each year. Our tour took up most of the day again driving the full length of Captiva and Sanibel. We were back at our condo just in time for a very light supper. Since we ate lunch late in the day none of us were in the mood for supper but we decided that clam chowder would hit the spot. We checked our restaurant guide and found that the Timbers offered chowder to go. We drove there and ordered three bowls. It turned out to be very yummy and all of us raved about it. We've been to the Timbers many times in the past but were not aware just how good the chowder might be. We'll remember that in the future. We took no photos today.
Hugs,
Jerry & Gerrie
