Amanda McDonald Jackson

Amanda McDonald Jackson
b.Nov. 26, 1855 d.Mar. 26, 1930

- Notes -

Amanda is the only one of the girls born to Jonathan and Susannah that married. As far as we know she lived at home until she met and married.

Her husband was a circuit riding Baptist minister named Jacob Jackson Macon.

Jacob Jackson Macon was born in Tennessee, lived for some time in Georgia, then moved to Pike County Alabama where he was a circuit riding minister. His first marriage was to Nancy Bates and they had six children prior to her death. Those children were named, Will, Jim, Tom, John, Elizabeth (Babe) and Larkin. We have no information about these kids other than their names.

At some point JJ Jackson became the permanent minister at the Spring Hill Baptist church where he and Amanda met. JJ Macon was held in very high esteem by the congregation at the church and after his death they placed a very large stone on his grave there in the cemetery at Spring Hill Church. It is said that later in his life JJ had severe mental health problems and was committed for his own protection. I have no information about how his illness affected his family or if Amanda stayed with him until he finally died.

Since the Rev. Macon is intered in the Spring Hill cemetery it is likely that Amanda is as well. However, we could not find her grave.

There were four children born to Amanda and JJ. Their names are Janette, Fannie Pearl, George Colbert, Bettie Marie. All of these children with the exception of Janette married and raised large families.

We do have the application for the Marriage license for Amanda and JJ, it was issued on October 12th, 1886 and the ceremony was conducted the very next day at the home of Mrs. McDonald according to court records. That likely was the home of Susannah who was still living in the family home hear Spring Hill at that time. The license was signed by JJ, Amanda and RD Windham (the surviving son of Susannah).
